Having last erupted in 1982, Mount Tarumae is one of Japan's most active volcanoes. This 1042m high volcano gives you superb views of the coastline to the south-east and and Lake Shikotsu to the North. This day hike will take you up to the summit of the volcano and then around the caldera, giving you many different views of the area. This is a truly unique experience and one to tick off your bucket list!

Itinerary

Meet at adex base 15 minutes beforehand to check gear and to complete formalities.
Mount Tarumae trailhead
Drive to Mount Tarumae trailhead. (approx. 60 minutes)
Mountain summit
Hike from the trailhead up to the summit of Mount Tarumae. (approx. 60 minutes)
Caldera walk and break
Have a break at the summit. (approx. 30 minutes)Walk around the caldera of Mount Tarumae and have a break with a spectacular view. (approx. 120 minutes)
Mount Tarumae carpark
Descend Mount Tarumae and return to the carpark. (approx. 60 minutes)

Take free shuttle bus back to adex base. (approx. 60 minutes)

What do I need to bring?
Appropriate footwear such as hiking boots or shoes need to be worn. As it is a mountain, waterproof gear needs to be taken in case of rain and strong wind. The wearing of layers that can be removed or added is strongly advised. Participants need to bring their own lunch and water.

Cancellation Policy
If the tour is canceled due to bad weather on the day (heavy rain, strong winds, typhoons, heavy snow, etc.), we will refund 50% of the published price of the activity tour.
We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 1 day or less before the event. 70% if booking is cancelled 2 days, 50% if booking is cancelled 7 days and10% if booking is cancelled 14 days or less before the event.
